When to Use
Quantifying the severity and extent of atopic dermatitis.
Standardized outcome measure widely required in clinical trials for new AD treatments.
Determining eligibility for biologics (e.g., Dupilumab)
Section 2
Formula & Logic
Calculation Steps
Body divided into 4 regions: Head/Neck (10%), Upper Limbs (20%), Trunk (30%), Lower Limbs (40%). For children <8 years, head is 20%, trunk 30%, upper 20%, lower 30%.
Severity signs: Erythema, Induration/Papulation, Excoriation, Lichenification. Each graded 0-3.
Area of involvement graded 0-6 (similar to PASI).
Region Score = (Sum of severity signs) × Area Score × Region Multiplier.
Total Score = Sum of Region Scores (Max 72).

Pearls/Pitfalls
Clinical Pearls
Unlike SCORAD, EASI only includes objective physician assessment and does not factor in patient-reported pruritus or sleep loss.
EASI is highly sensitive to changes in severely extended disease.
Evaluate the average intensity of the signs across the entire involved area within a specific region.
