When to Use

When to Use

Calculating initial fluid replacement in burn patients with >15-20% TBSA.
Standard emergent protocol for acute thermal injuries.
Section 2

Formula & Logic

Formula

4 mL × Weight (kg) × % TBSA (2nd/3rd degree burns).

Timing

First Half: Administered over the first 8 hours from time of injury.
Second Half: Administered over the following 16 hours.

Pearls/Pitfalls

Clinical Pearls

Maintain urine output (UOP) of 0.5 mL/kg/hr in adults and 1 mL/kg/hr in children.
Target Lactated Ringer’s solution (closest to physiologic pH).
Avoid over-resuscitation (Fluid creep).
