Unlike the Tegner scale, the MARS focuses on the FREQUENCY of four fundamental knee-demanding movements (running, cutting, decelerating, pivoting).
| Minimum Score |
| Maximum Score |
The MARS captures how often a knee is subjected to "extreme" loads. A score of 16 indicates a very high-demand athlete, placing them at higher risk for subsequent degenerative changes if mechanical integrity is compromised.
Development and validation of an activity rating scale for disorders of the knee.
Fundamental Activity Frequency
Running while playing a sport or jogging
Changing directions while running
Coming to a quick stop while running
Turning body with foot planted (ski, skate, etc.)
Clinical Note: Patients should rate their activity status based on their healthiest and most active state in the past year. This providing a ceiling for recovery expectations.
