TUE Approval Criteria
Incomplete Requirements All 4 WADA criteria must be strictly matched
The substance is needed to treat an acute or chronic medical condition, such that the athlete would experience significant health impairment without it.
The therapeutic use is highly unlikely to produce any additional enhancement of performance beyond what is expected by a return to a state of normal health.
There is no reasonable therapeutic alternative to the prohibited substance or method.
The necessity for the substance is not a consequence, wholly or in part, of the prior use (without TUE) of a substance which was prohibited at the time of use.
Medical documentation (clinical notes, labs, imaging) proving all 4 criteria must accompany the TUE application. Retroactive TUEs are rare and only granted in emergency "acute medical situations".
