A subset of sepsis in which particularly profound circulatory, cellular, and metabolic abnormalities are associated with a greater risk of mortality than with sepsis alone.
When to Use
Identifying high-risk sepsis patients requiring intensive care
Determining eligibility for septic shock management bundles
Risk-stratifying patients with refractory hypotension
CLINICAL INSIGHT
How it Works
Clinical Criteria for Septic Shock
Sepsis (Infection + SOFA acute rise ≥ 2) AND
Persistent hypotension requiring vasopressors to maintain MAP ≥ 65 mmHg AND
In-hospital mortality for patients meeting these criteria is estimated at > 40%.

Septic Shock Criteria
Septic Shock Criteria: Identifies the high-mortality subset of sepsis patients. Defined by vasopressor need and elevated lactate despite resuscitation.
Shock Threshold assessment
Shock Classification
Shock Negative
Standard sepsis monitoring. Circulatory/metabolic criteria for shock not fully met.
